The GATE/Encore Program is an education program that is designed to nurture, challenge, and develop the potential of gifted and talented students. Mrs. Tyra Harris-Thompson is the GATE/Encore teacher for Andrew Jackson Elementary. She serves students in grades kindergarten through 4th grade. There are four GATE/Encore classes that meet one-half day each week. (Kindergarten and 1st grade, 2nd grade, 3rd grade, and 4th grade). This year’s program is focusing on many exciting units of study such as China, NASA SEMMA – Exploring the Solar System, Math Around the World, From the Ground Up, Expressions of Art, as well as working with the ARTSMART program. MNPS vision for Gifted and Talented Education (GATE) is to have the most outstanding gifted and talented program in the United States. |
