Our Andrew Jackson Elementary School Library Media Center is the “hub” of the school. Our Media Center maintains a collection of materials and instructional supplies for all students, teachers, parents and community members. The school’s collection contains a wide variety of fiction and non-fiction books, videos approved for classroom use, dictionaries, encyclopedia sets, atlases, current and back issues of magazines for student and teacher use, literature directed at curriculum assistance for teachers, and a variety of other reference volumes. The Media Center has twenty available computers equipped with Internet access and variety of software programs available to students, staff and parents. With a collection of about 10,000 books and media in a school of 550 students, we have approximate 17 books per student. Our Media Center is open from 7:45 to 3:00 to assure that all students have adequate time to use any and all Media Center materials. Students are allowed to check out books throughout the day. Library classes are on both flexible and fixed schedule. Teachers are able to collaborative plan with our Media Center Specialist, Barbara Edwards, throughout the school year.
